Tickets and reservations

There is no single booking rule for every attraction. Passport support, ticket release windows, time slots and on-site sales differ by venue and date.

A practical checklist for booking China attractions with a foreign passport and planning around limited or Chinese-only systems.

Check each attraction, not just the city

  • Confirm whether the official site or mini-program accepts a foreign passport and the exact name format it expects.
  • Record the ticket release date, time slot, refund deadline and whether the ticket includes entry or only a separate service.
  • High-demand sites such as the Palace Museum, Zhangjiajie and major museums can have different rules; check the venue for your dates.

Compare official and English-language options

  • Start with the attraction’s official booking page and current visitor notice.
  • If the official flow is unavailable in your language, compare reputable booking platforms and review fees, identity requirements and cancellation terms.
  • Do not assume a hotel desk or ticket counter can solve a sold-out date; keep a second-choice time or attraction.

Keep proof ready

Save the confirmation, QR code, passport name and the venue’s Chinese name offline. Check whether staff will scan the booking code or need to see the passport used to reserve it.

Practical questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy tickets when I arrive?+

Sometimes, but capacity controls and time slots vary. Check the venue’s official notice before relying on walk-up tickets.

Should I book through an official mini-program?+

Use the official route when it supports your passport and payment method. Otherwise compare a reputable reseller and read its fees and cancellation conditions.
